Bruce Saunders was born about 1963 and worked as a butcher. His first wife died of breast cancer while their son Blake was young, and a second marriage, to Bernadette, fell apart but was never formally ended.
Bruce was devoted. He had not told her he was still married. Armstrong said he was worth more dead than alive.
Plans changed several times. Another plan was to shoot him in the car park behind his workplace.
The land was being tidied for sale, and Bruce had paid for the truck, chainsaws and industrial wood chipper.
She called 000 just before eight. Crews took half an hour to arrive and found remains scattered fifteen metres around the machine. Detectives found a pool of blood on the feeder tray and drag marks from halfway up the driveway.
She sat in the front row at his funeral, was comforted by Blake, and asked him for half of Bruce's ashes. Ten days before Christmas she handed out Bruce's clothes and told people to wear them. She asked a friend to write to her lawyer claiming she and Bruce had been in a committed relationship, for the insurance, and the friend refused because it was not true.
She told him the police had no evidence, that he should tell a lawyer he had blocked out the day, and that they should back off the loving messages because it looked bad. The men met her in a car in the garage with the radio up, believing the house was bugged.
Blake called her an evil person and said she had taken the last important part of his life. The judge called her a deep-seated psychopath and gave her life, and as she left court someone called her a filthy animal.
