These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
The far south of Georgia, Seminole County, area code 229. Donalsonville has 2,488 people, a lumber mill that built the town and housed its workers, and the distinction of producing two of the Alcatraz escapees of 1962.
The weight sits almost entirely on one episode. Episode 326, aired in 2022, accounts for eight of the ten deaths in the Donalsonville area, all of them from spring 1973, when four escaped prisoners from Maryland drove into the county and killed members of a farming family on a 525-acre farm on River Road, twelve miles south of town. A sheriff called it the biggest deliberately planned homicide in Georgia's history.
The other two deaths come from episode 164, aired in 2020, twenty miles south in Greenwood, across the Florida line in Jackson County. Two people died there in September 1989. That episode follows a man who ran the gas station, owned a bar nearby and lived with his wife and two children in a trailer behind the station. Two towns on a state line, sixteen years apart, and a total that is really one very bad spring.
