These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Eatonton sits in Putnam County, central Georgia, an hour and 15 minutes southeast of Atlanta, and had a population of 6,512 in 2019. James and Jimmie open with the Rock Eagle Effigy Mound, one of only two such sites east of the Mississippi and both of them in this county, built by woodland peoples perhaps 1,000 to 3,000 years ago, now inside a 1,500-acre park.
Five murders arrive across three episodes. Episode 111 takes two, from May 1991 and November 1993, in the town itself. Episode 511 takes two from February 2002, 24 miles out in Rutledge. Episode 472 takes one from May 2019, 19 miles away in Milledgeville. The count comes from separate cases spread over nearly thirty years: the town holds the oldest, and each of the two outlying towns adds one episode.
That is enough for rank 46 overall and first in Georgia. A small county town and two neighbours close enough to share the same 25 miles, and no case in it with more than two murders.
