These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Haiku sits on the north shore of Maui, in Maui County, with a population of 7,689 as the hosts told it in 2018. James and Jimmie took their time getting there, working through the Sandwich Islands and the 1893 overthrow of the monarchy first.
The Haiku area covers three towns on Maui: Haiku itself, Kihei at 13 miles and Hana at 22. Four murders across three episodes, running from 1986 to 2016. Episode 262 has the two oldest, from 1986 and 1993, both in Kihei. Episode 56 has the 2014 case in Haiku, where a 27-year-old woman five months pregnant left a family gathering saying she needed petrol and disappeared that night. Episode 474 has the 2016 death in Hana.
No single episode carries the total. The four are spread thin, one in Haiku, two in Kihei, one in Hana, and that is how the Haiku area gets to 51st overall and first in Hawaii.
