These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

McCook is in Red Willow County, in south-western Nebraska. The line reached that point in 1882, the town was platted then, and it took its name from a Union Army general. About 7,500 people live there. The early slogan was 'the magic city'. It later became 'the okay city', which is either self-awareness or the most honest tourism campaign in the state.

For a hotspot, McCook is a modest one. It ranks 268th overall and third in Nebraska. The whole tally comes from one episode, 266, which has both of its murders. In September 1973 a couple in their fifties, who lived on a family farm outside town, were killed.
