Nowra sits on the South Coast of New South Wales, about a hundred miles from Sydney, on the southern side of the Shoalhaven River. Its name is said to come from the Aboriginal word for the black cockatoo, and the township was recognised in 1852. By 2023 it held 22,584 people: a country town on the river with forest close by and a long road to the city.

The area's entry in the league is episode 392. Two people were murdered in January 2006, in the town and in the forest nearby. The victims were a couple aged 56 and 44 who ran a 28-hectare horse farm, boarding and training horses and showing Shire horses at the Royal Easter Show. They had a ten-year-old son and were regarded as pillars of the community.

Nowra's tally is one episode and two victims, all in the one month. It ranks 276 overall and first in New South Wales.
