These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Oshawa sits on the shore of Lake Ontario at the eastern edge of the Toronto commuter belt, close enough to the city that its sprawl reaches the place and far enough that it kept a working city's own accent. The hosts introduce it as Canada's Motor City, the Detroit of Canada, on the strength of the GM plants, then go back to a general store that became a meeting place because it had a makeshift post office inside, and to a name said to translate as "where we must leave our canoes".
The hotspot is one town and the count is thin: episode 526, two murders, one in 2008 and one in 2017. This is not a cluster of cases piling up across the decades, and no single episode carries a crowd of victims. It is a pair of killings a decade apart, and the episode spends its time on the second, which opens with a fisherman and his grandson finding a torso in the harbour with no arms, legs or head. The 2008 case gets a mention and no more.
Two murders and a stretch of cold water, then: 278th overall, third in Ontario.
