These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
The Tequesta area is two towns in Palm Beach County, both with short histories. Tequesta was a developer's plan in the 1950s, built around a country club with 600 home sites, and it incorporated in 1970. It holds 6,097 people. Wellington, 24 miles inland from West Palm Beach, went from almost nothing in the 1980s to about 61,000, with a grass runway and hangars built into the houses.
The cases sit a generation apart: May 1990 in Wellington, August 2016 in Tequesta. In Tequesta, two recent retirees had moved to enjoy their fifties, in a neighbourhood where garage doors stayed open, neighbours gathered to drink, and the converted garage was known as the Garage Mahal. Three murders across two episodes: one case has two victims and the other has one.
It ranks 108 overall, first in Florida. Not much of a title, but the state has to start somewhere.
