These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

Kawaihae has 742 people, sits on the north side of the Big Island in Hawaii County, and is third in Hawaii. It got there on one episode, one case and one victim. The whole hotspot comes from episode 706, a case that ran for a few weeks at the end of 2013, in the centre itself.

That episode is about a musician, a singer, composer and ukulele player who grew up in the Puna district. He played on cruise ships, at tide pool concerts and at the Ironman triathlon, and he wove coconut.

The town's older history is stranger. A rival cousin of the king who would unify the islands landed at Kawaihae with a great following, and those followers were killed and sacrificed to fulfil a prophecy. The hosts say that cleared the way for that king's conquests and the unification of the Hawaiian Kingdom in 1810. The place also passed for somewhere else in Waterworld. One murder, and a crowded story around it.
