These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
McCook is in Red Willow County, in south-western Nebraska, and has about 7,500 people. The railroad arrived in 1882, and the town was platted and named after a Union Army general. Its early slogan was 'the magic city'. Later it changed to 'the okay city'.
Both murders come from episode 266, in one month: September 1973. A farmer of 56 and his wife of 57 lived on a family farm near Culbertson, just outside McCook. He was born near there, went to McCook High School and played football for the town. James and Jimmie take their time over that background, and it places the case.
Two victims in a single case, more than fifty years ago, in a town that otherwise appears in the league once. McCook ranks 264th overall and third in Nebraska.
