These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Newry is a mountain town in Oxford County, western Maine, near the New Hampshire border, population 358 as the hosts told it in 2019. Settled in 1781 by four men from Massachusetts, raided a year later and abandoned, it was bought in 1794 and renamed the Bostwick Plantation after the buyer's sister. Towns renamed twice learn to keep their heads down.
All four of Newry's murders come in one episode, episode 125, and all in September 2006. One case, four victims, rank 126 overall and third in Maine. A guest had taken a room at the inn permanently, almost like an apartment, because the sixty-five-year-old owner needed the steady income. She had come from San Francisco after years in sales and running a bed and breakfast, and had just decided to sell up: mountain bookings were too thin to live on.
That is the shape of a one-month hotspot. Not decades of trouble, just four deaths in a town of 358 where the inn could not fill its rooms.
