Greer, South Carolina, is a town of 35,131 people in Greenville and Spartanburg counties. This is the story of the murder of Christina Parcel, a 41-year-old veterinary technician, in her sister's house on Cane Brake Drive in October 2021.
Christina attended the South Carolina Governor's School for Math and Science but never finished college, and her family despaired of her choices in men. She married and divorced in the early 2000s.
In 2015 Christina had begun dating Bradley Post, a retired man from Ohio some 25 years her senior who had known her when her father ran a cigar shop. Post was wealthy, paid her tuition to become a veterinary technician and supported her financially; they obtained a marriage licence but never completed it. By 2018 she worked at an animal hospital in Greenville.
On 14 April 2021 the Italian Central Authority ordered him to return with the child pending the custody case. Christina travelled to Italy, and when Bradley Post collected her at the airport he proposed.
A gifted pianist trained at Juilliard, he had played with the South Carolina Philharmonic.
In April 2021 their communications increased sharply. Over the following months the two exchanged 1,769 texts and emails, and packages with nude photographs identifying Christina as an escort called Caroline Warren were sent to her workplace, neighbours, Post and Outman's Cigars and Martini Bar.
On 13 October 2021 Christina returned home at 9.12 a.m. after taking her daughter to school. A neighbour, Donna Gorman, had seen a tall, thin white man with reddish hair, dressed in black with a backpack and gloves, on a bicycle at 8.15 a.m. Ring footage showed a figure entering her front door at 9.15 and leaving on a bicycle in a white mask at 9.27. Bradley Post, unable to reach her, found her body in the living room, surrounded by rose petals, and called 911. She had 35 stab wounds, defensive injuries to her hands, and fatal wounds to her jugular vein and carotid artery. Police found a laptop, memory cards, a bag of white powder, her phone and $1,000 in cash untouched. The house smelled of paint thinner, poured over her hands and fingernails to destroy DNA; it failed.
DNA under Christina's right-hand fingernails was 825 million times more likely to be his than anyone else's.
The judge held him in contempt and gave him six months. The house on Cane Brake Drive has since sold for $256,000.
