These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

Cynthiana sits in Posey County, in the south-western corner of Indiana where the state narrows towards the Ohio River. About 532 people live there. It takes its name from Cynthiana in Kentucky, where 44 settlers came from in 1815, and it was laid out in 1817, mostly by people from the south who had come up the Ohio River. Ten minutes away at Griffin, Bull Island hosted the Erie Canal Soda Pop Festival in 1972: promoters expected 15,000 people and between 200,000 and 300,000 came.

The hotspot's three murders all come from episode 337, two cases about a generation apart, one in July 1977 and one in August 2000. Both happened in the town itself, so there is no ring of neighbouring places to account for. One episode carries the whole count, which is a lot for a village of 532, and it puts Cynthiana 158th overall and third in Indiana.
