Why is Easley, South Carolina so murdery?

Easley sits in the north-west corner of South Carolina, in Pickens County with a small part in Anderson County, about 25 minutes outside Greenville. On the show's map that makes it commuter country, with Traveler's Rest and Greer close enough to count. Nine of the show's murders fall within 25 miles, across three episodes and three towns. Four are in Easley itself, enough for rank 127 overall and second in the state.

The count does not lean on one horror. Episode 50 carries four victims from 2008 in the town itself. Episode 671 is tagged 14 miles away at Traveler's Rest and carries another four across four dates between 1987 and 1990. Episode 618 is tagged 21 miles away at Greer and adds one victim from 2021. Three episodes, then, and a spread from the late 1980s to the 2020s, rather than one very bad year.

Worth saying plainly: this counts the show's cases, not crime statistics. James and Jimmie pick the towns, and a place of about 20,765 people with a railroad and textile past made a good story.
