These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

The Catalina Foothills is the wealthy edge of a big city. It never grew up on its own. It sits in Pima County, about fifteen minutes outside Tucson, area code 520, and it dates from the early 1920s. No mining boom put it there. The land was federal trust land, open range for cattle, until a developer bought up property north of River Road and laid out ten subdivisions of large lots, an early gated community. The 2024 population was given as 50,096.

Ten miles north, Oro Valley was marketed by its chamber of commerce as the safest community in Arizona. The show likes to hold that sort of boast up to the light. The two cases sit a generation apart and one victim each, so no single dreadful night carries the count. One belongs to November 1996 in the foothills, the other to August 2008 in Oro Valley. Two episodes, two towns, one murder apiece.
