These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

Clarkston sits in DeKalb County, north-central Georgia, about twenty minutes outside Atlanta, and the railroad made it. Commuting got easy enough that it became one of the first true suburban communities in the South: a small city of roughly two square miles, low-rise apartment complexes, a post office since 1876. Rank 87 on the league, third in Georgia, is modest infamy for a place built as a comfortable ride home.

The Clarkston area's four murders come from two episodes, thirteen miles and four years apart. Episode 239 carries three of them: killings in Clarkston between April and June 1981, the first in a flat at one of those complexes, where a woman was found dead in the bath. Episode 376 adds one death in Vinings in March 1985, when a scream and a thud from the flat above carried to the neighbours before dawn.

Atlanta's pull ties the two towns. Vinings was a small census-designated place north-west of Buckhead then, and its addresses now count as Atlanta proper; Clarkston got its name in 1882 from a railroad director and has been the commuter edge of a larger city since. Two episodes, four deaths, one very bad spring: small, but not nothing.
