These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.

Depoy is barely a dot in Muhlenberg County, western Kentucky. It's an unincorporated community six minutes from Greenville, small enough that there are no statistics for it. It used to be a stop on the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, and its shortened name comes from a railroad agent. The Depoy area takes in Madisonville, 17 miles away, the Hopkins County seat founded in 1807 and shaped by farming, tobacco, coal and manufacturing, about an hour and forty minutes from Nashville.

The five murders split between two towns. Four of them belong to one June in 1999 in Depoy, the case episode 698 covers. The fifth is a single killing in Madisonville in January 2003, episode 655, three and a half years later and 17 miles up the road.

It comes third in Kentucky and eightieth overall, and most of it happens in a hamlet with no statistics to its name.
