These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Pavillion, in Fremont County in central Wyoming, has 230 people, as the hosts said in 2023. 1906 brought one of the last big land rushes in the West, and nearly ten thousand people turned up. A Denver newspaper that August said the interest had not been matched since Oklahoma, and land went for a dollar fifty an acre, then a dollar twenty five, then a dollar for whatever was left after five years.
All four murders come from one episode, 359, aired in 2023: two cases a few years apart, one near Christmas in the mid-1970s, one on 12 September 1980.
The episode opens on a man who got his first rifle in the first grade, a penny a bird for shooting sparrows' nests under the farmhouse eaves. At seventeen he joined the Navy and stood radio watch on the USS Independence, listening for Soviet submarines. Cuba during the Bay of Pigs, then Africa, then a discharge before Vietnam. With nobody left where he came from, he took a Greyhound to Wyoming, where his parents had settled in Lander. Fifty dollars a month rent, maintenance for US Steel at $2.29 an hour, and the rest went on guns.
