Pottstown is in Montgomery County, eastern Pennsylvania, about an hour west of Philadelphia, where commuter country gives way to older iron country. Iron and steel drew an iron-making family, who built a forge and a large house just west of the creek, and the town was founded in 1761 on part of a 995-acre estate. It has the nation's oldest mill, the Pottstown Roller Mill, and 23,282 people. It ranks 75th overall and third in Pennsylvania.

The Pottstown area's six murders come in two episodes, spread across the 1980s and 1990s: cases from 1982, 1991 and 1996. Episode 637 (2025) stays in Pottstown for two victims, one in 1982 and one in 1996, and brings the local colour, including a property developer's red and white Cadillac with a Rolls-Royce grille that the town called the pimp mobile. Episode 132 (2019) does the heavy lifting: four victims in a single January 1991 case in Weisenberg Township, 25 miles out in Lehigh County, small communities outside Allentown with a median household income of $94,000.
