These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Sutherland is a village of 1.3 square miles in Lincoln County, western central Nebraska, three and a half hours from Lincoln and three and three quarters from Denver. It was incorporated in 1905 and named for a Union Pacific official. The old Mormon, Oregon and Pony Express routes run past it. In 1975 it held around 800 to 850 people, mostly ranchers and railroad workers. It has 1,601 now.
All six murders happened on one day, 18 October 1975, in the village itself, and they arrive as a single episode, number 194. The whole count comes from that October day.
That's enough for rank 147 overall and second in Nebraska.
