These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Eureka is in Juab County, a little over an hour from Salt Lake City, and it is a former silver and gold mining town. It began as Ruby Hollow and took the name Eureka once mining started, was incorporated in 1892 and became the financial centre of the Tintic mining district, which had four big mines known as the Big Four. About 596 people live there now, and the town is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The hotspot holds three murders, which puts it 164th overall and third in Utah. All three come from episode 400, aired in 2023, and they are three separate cases: October 1991, July 1994 and December 2017, with one victim in each. That is a thin spread, twenty-six years from the first to the last.
The episode is a review of Juab County, so Eureka carries the whole thing on a population of 596. James and Jimmie introduced it as a bustling mining town, which is the sort of present tense a place keeps after the mines have packed up.
