Kellogg is a mining town in Shoshone County, up in the northern part of Idaho, and it carries the sort of motto a place only adopts once it has stopped worrying what anyone thinks: "founded by a jackass and inhabited by his descendants". It was incorporated in 1907 and named, roundabout, for the donkey that led a prospector to an outcrop of galena. In 1960 it had 6,000 people and a booming mine; by 2025 it had 2,255.
The league count here is one episode. Episode 597 accounts for all eight murders within 25 miles, every one of them in Kellogg itself, across dates in 1996, April 1997 and May 2005. So this is not a town the show keeps circling back to, decade after decade. It is one long, grim story told in a single sitting, and its body count does the ranking on its own.
Worth remembering that this measures the show's cases and nothing else. James and Jimmie pick the towns, and a place with one terrible episode can outrank a city with a hundred quiet ones.
