These are the show's cases, not crime statistics: the show picks the towns.
Vinton sits just outside Roanoke, close enough that the hosts introduce it as a suburb of the city, and it belongs to Roanoke County. The Virginia General Assembly incorporated it in March 1884, when 584 people lived there and much of the land was still farmland. Speculators bought large swathes and sold them on, prices fell repeatedly, and many buyers were Norfolk and Western Railway employees, which gave the town its blue-collar reputation. The American Viscose plant opened nearby in 1917 and brought a large number of jobs. By 2020 the population was 8,069.
All six of the hotspot's murders come from a single episode, episode 190, and every one of them happened inside Vinton itself. Two cases, seventeen years apart: February 1977, then August 1994, when the victims were a postal worker, his wife and their two daughters, eleven and three. One episode, two dates and six victims, all of it inside a town of 8,069.
