The story behind the phrase

Where did "Alpine divorce" come from?

The term turns up on the main feed in the opening chat of episode 680, in March 2026, when James calls it "the craziest thing ever".

James explains it in episode 681 as taking someone you're in a committed relationship with somewhere and walking off. In episode 682 he adds, "I suppose it's better than killing them and leaving them there."

How is "Alpine divorce" used now?

So far it has only come up on the main feed in that run of episodes, 680 to 682.

When was "Alpine divorce" first said?

It was first heard on the main feed in episode 680, "Brutal Idiocy", on 7 March 2026, at about 0:01:33.

Only the main feed is searched. The Patreon bonus episodes aren't, so a phrase may be older there.

"...for small town murder we're gonna do that talk about these alpine divorces because this is the craziest thing ever yeah this is alpine divorce where basically like if if we were married I would take..."

James mentions it in the opening chat in March 2026. It is an outside term he is picking up, not one the show coined.
