The story behind the phrase
Where did "Shut up and give me murder" come from?
It first turns up in episode 19, in James's end-of-show appeal for support. He imagines a listener saying "screw you guys, I just want to listen to your goddamn show" and answers "shut up and give me murder".
It seems to be coined on the spot as a joke at the expense of the pitch itself. Jimmie riffs "shut up and get me murdered" and James adds "shut up I want murder now", then reassures listeners that just enjoying the murder is fine too.
How is "Shut up and give me murder" used now?
By episode 24 James uses it as the ritual line that sends the show into the case. It also became the name of the show's website, so it now comes up in James's plugs for live show tickets and merchandise, up to the latest episodes.
When was "Shut up and give me murder" first said?
It was first heard in episode 19, "Two Deaths, One Unexpected Murderer", on 24 May 2017, at about 0:02:16.
