Hanover Township is Morris County commuter country, about forty minutes from New York, and the show uses it as a base camp rather than a crime scene. Only one of its eight episodes happens in the township itself, episode 205, and that one carries three victims whose dates jump between 1971 and 1982. The other eleven arrive in seven episodes, in a rough ring from Denville and Chatham Township six miles away to Franklin and Ramsey at twenty-two.

That spread is the story: no single dreadful afternoon supplies the count, seven separate episodes do, one or two victims at a time, with cases dated from 1971 to 2010. The town's own history explains the geography: ironworks and paper mills before the Second World War, then highways in the 1950s and a population of about 14,400 commuting into the city.

Worth saying plainly that this counts the show's cases, not crime. The show picks the towns; Hanover simply sits in the middle of a good many of them.
