She's a party

What does "She's a party" mean on Small Town Murder?

The hosts' verdict on someone whose list of chaos has just been read out: the mould experiments, the warrants, the motorcycles and the lollipops. It lands straight after the list, deadpan, and works for men too ("he's a party, this guy").

The story behind the phrase

Where did "She's a party" come from?

It first turns up in episode 231, when James says of a woman in the story, "she's a party, by the way", and comes back to it when she dies: "oh, she was a party".

The joke is the understatement. Someone's record is read out in full, the warrants, the drugs, the brass bed with restraints, and the summing up is that she sounds like fun to be around.

How is "She's a party" used now?

Both hosts use it. In episode 359 James says it twice in a row after "she likes to fuck, ride motorcycles and take off out of nowhere", and Jimmie has made it his own too, from the mouldy teacups of episode 254 to "she's a fucking party is what she is" in episode 736.

When was "She's a party" first said?

It was first heard on the main feed in episode 231, "A Classy Trashy Murder Mystery", on 8 July 2021, at about 2:09:20.

Only the main feed is searched. The Patreon bonus episodes aren't, so a phrase may be older there.

"2000 She's a party."

James, on a woman in the story with a colourful record, drops "she's a party, by the way" in passing, and a few lines later, when she dies, "oh, she was a party".
