The story behind the phrase

Where did "Pocket Robin" come from?

It comes up in episode 116, in a case with a vampire pyramid scheme. James says the man's grandmother asked him to move out because he wandered the house with a pyramid on his head, screaming about "pocket robin" and crunching on the bird. James turns it into a crunching song on the spot.

The hosts could not get over how deranged the detail was. In episode 117 James says the whole show has had a song stuck in their heads for a week and links it to "Rockin' Robin" by Bobby Day.

How is "Pocket Robin" used now?

"Pocket robin" became the nickname for that man and a yardstick for the most unhinged people in a case. In episode 152 a new subject makes him look like he could pull himself together, and in episode 606 a case is "definitely pocket robin level", a top 10 crazy person. It was also merchandise, with pocket robin T-shirts mentioned in episode 122 and a lips design with a robin in episode 182.

When was "Pocket Robin" first said?

It was first heard in episode 116, "A Vampire Pyramid Scheme", on 25 April 2019, at about 1:24:39.

"his his his saute sparrow special or was it was he was wandering around the house screaming pocket robin pocket robins and the pyramid on his head and he's getting crunch crunch crunch pocket robin and crunchity crunch ooh pocket Robin here beak is so crunchy crunch crunching crunch and Robin Pocket"

James is explaining why the grandmother threw him out: he wandered the house screaming 'pocket robin' with a pyramid on his head and crunched on the robin from his pocket. The phrase is quoted from the man himself, then instantly turned into a crunching song, so it is coined on the spot and becomes his nickname.
